Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Snowdonia ballot entered, local league 5.5m race completed. 2 mins slower than last season, got a bit too eager on lap two of four so my plan for a steady 7min/mile effort across the race went for a burton as the competitive juices flowed, but apart from it feeling a little tougher aerobically than it should have done, felt like a good session. According to strava segments each lap was quicker than the previous, which suggests the pacing was decent.

Stuck to a sensible pace throughout the rest of the week though, and will do the same this week, feeling like I'm on a sensible path to recovery.

Good to see you today Larks, you could at least have looked like you were trying when you flew past 😁

Oops, Baz. Blood flows well when you're out for a run! Looks like it could have been worse and a good long run done.

Having had my Garmin 935 for a few weeks now I’m of the opinion the training level thingy is not to be relied on. So too the wrist HRM after yesterday’s recovery session giving a tempo level HR. Otherwise it’s a decent watch.

Today marks the end of my first 8-week training block for Manchester. Just 18 weeks to go! I’m achieving weekly mileage now (45-50) that I have previously achieved just before the taper. Running to HR on recovery and medium-long runs has seen intensity and pace increase to where it should have been. (For 10 years I’ve just plodded along at 9min/mi believing that is acceptable and wondering why I’ve plateaued for so long. For 56 days I’ve only had one day off and at one point was on a 45 day running streak. Previously a 3 day running streak was a major event😀. I’ve found running each day and spreading workload out keeps aches &pains at bay. And I’ve also lost a couple of kg too.

Lol Bonners, I disguise my effort well :-) Got pushed to the finish line and stomach was starting to churn! If I'd not spotted you at the start of the last lap I don't think I'd have been motivated to finish that strongly (sorry!!)

So I’d like to build up the final month of the parkrun spreadsheet for the year...

A finely poised competition, no-one knows who can win, it’s on a knife edge...

Well...

If Baz can run 18:53 or faster AND prevent HappyG from running a parkrun faster than 23:25, the title is Baz’s.

No change at the top this month with HG’s comeback into the 20:XXs keeping his nose ahead, and the ice stopping Baz from smashing out sub 19 efforts in frozen lands beyond the Wall.

It’s marginally closer in my family’s version, with the 19yo speedster languishing in third place despite being consistently sub 17 this year, whereas the slightly languid 13yo has upped his game to take down his learning disabled 17yo brother with some vigour - the motivation of beating him was quite powerful!! Meanwhile I’m a lowly 5th of 6, with SWMBO bringing up the rear.

good to see the comeback is on lark. Have to admit to a little chuckle at seeing you run round at 9:xx pace!

Cam - is the HR-based running making you run faster or slower than you did in the past?

Is everyone else just bombarded by Valencia success stories? The naysayers are pointing at shoes (again) but all the great times remind me of my impressions of the course and the event in general. Got to be one in the sights of the PB chasers next year, surely....

Another week of 9'ers for me WW. Didn't you know, 9min/miling is the new tempo ;-) HR is still off the charts for me at that pace compared to where I was at previously, so really can't argue that that is where I should be at the moment.

I'm nothing if not a slave to a plan - so my plan is documented, I'd best stick to it! I must admit on some evenings last week, and no doubt this week, I'm glad I'm bimbling along rather than risking life and limb on the frosty surfaces.

Merry Christmas & Happy New G(rrr)
A girl in our club did 3:19 at Valencia, but I'd say down to hard work and consistent training. She's come on from being a 4 hour marathoner just a few years ago.

I want Bazo to get me back to sub 20 next year (as he's going to beat me in lark's parkrun challenge, even with my sandbagged times from 2018!) 20:30 for 5th place on a very frosty (-5C) Lochore Meadows pakrun on Sat (with a wee hill, 3 times).

But most amazing run for ages was that Sunday Sunrise one. Have a wee look in 1500 thread if you want to see one of the sunrise pics. It was amazing. Worth getting up at 5, out the door 5.15, meeting in -8.5C car park at 5:45 and setting off at 6:15, to catch sun at 8.20. Really quite special up there. And don't talk to me about pace - 3hrs for 12 miles. It's not always about the speed! :-) G
