Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I wore a pair of Nike golf shoes that had been sat in the shed for about 10 years. The sole came away on the first tee causing much hilarity.

Here's a question: If you were cutting down from a 5 day, 37.5 hours a week job to 4 days a week, how many hours would you do on the days you worked? I was thinking that if I did 8.5 hours each day instead of 7.5, that mean I was only losing 3.5 hours a week income? I know it must depend upon salary, but is there cut off point where the tax benefits of earning less balances out the salary loss, or does that only come into effect at a relatively low income? Sorry, thinking out loud here as I go along.

I guess the basis of my question is, losing one fifth of ones salary seems like a fair chunk, losing one tenth is a more manageable amount, especially given a recent uplift for reaching 5 years.

Depends on whether the line between "manageable" and "gruelling" falls in the gap between 7.5 hours and 8.5 hours, Diogenes.

Interesting to see how the replies to Dio go.

There’s an argument for me doing another year after April at, say, three days a week (I currently work full time but compressed so I rarely work Mondays) - less for the money that because I still have no idea how to fill seven days’ of downtime in a week - and filling three is all too easy - so I’m looking for a sweet spot.

Original blue F-lite 230s I haven't seen those for years (I have green ones in use and grey ones stashed.) I have had one pair of trainers suffer storage related deterioration. The glue attaching the little bits of rubber to the sole lost its stickiness over a period of more than 10 years and the little bits of rubber are peeling off with use. Never noticed midsole material losing its bounce.

….and bought from the buzzy one (something to do with POSE) 😁

Can you get Innov8s from other places other than Buzzland then? There's news.

Dio, tax means your take-home won't drop by 10% for a 10% drop in hours. The precise proportion you lose will depend on what you earn, but I'm sure there are plenty of on-line tax calculators.

The last time I retired I found three 6-hour working days to be just nice, though my favourite days were the days on which I didn't go to work at all. It crept up to five or sometimes six 6-hour days by stealth and it made sense to continue because me being in at the same time every weekday afternoon rather than random bits of some weekdays provided reliability for the other staff.

Buzzland no longer does Inov8s. I sold off his surplus stock several years after he finished trading, though I left the Little Box of Hope containing trainers that he presumably kept in the hope of becoming a minimal-footwear runner again in the future and if we're starving I'll sling the contents on to eBay. Anyone want a pair of almost unused Puma H-Streets in Jamaican national colours? muppet
