I got nearer 5% for a 2 year fixed cash ISA at my bank. I dont think you can quite get that now though. I could have had more than 5% at a couple of places but I had issues making deposits with them one because my current account was too old to be recognised and one because the only other bank account I had was too new to be recognised

I thought interest rates seem slightly lower for ISAs than savings at the moment, when shopping around for mum recently - pay monthly seem few and far between these days too, so not as good for tax-free income as they used to be Stocks ISA might have a bit of risk but pays much better. |

It depends how soon you need the money. In 12-24 months you may not have as good returns as the guarantee in a cash isa. If the money is being saved for five years or more then the stocks and shares isa wins.

Investment ISA with Vanguard. All goes into Global Equity Funds and does OK, even with the current President of the US. Has it's ups n downs of course but you just got to ignore the noise.

I have a monthly saver account paying 6% interest. It’s only for a year and pay in a max of £250 a month. Better than nothing as I don’t have money I can really tie up at the moment.

I opened a cash ISA in March as it was a good interest rate with a 6 month boost. As a self employed higher rate tax payer I save for my 6-monthly tax bills so I need access to savings. I did subsequently open a S&S ISA, it’s been interesting to watch it fluctuate. But I see that as much better for long term savings, you certainly don’t want an unexpected crash the week before you need to use the funds!

ISAs only increase. Stocks can go down as well as up. When you reach a certain age your risk appetite changes.

Lipgloss, Lloyds have a 6.5% monthly saving account which sounds very similar. Best take the maximum cash rather than leave it in your DB scheme and get taxed on your pension. I think you'd look good in a Lamborghini @Velociraptor |

I used the 25% tax free sum to go fully electric - solar panels + battery, EV and air to air ASHP for heating. So we no longer have gas. This last year our total electricity bill was £1000 which included 9000 miles of car charging, and the air to air ASHP is effectively air conditioning which has been a real boon this last few days. The aim (apart from environmental factors) was incur up front costs to reduce ongoing costs through retirement. Wouldn't work for everyone but it's working for us. |
