Sharkie
You have learned the (extremely) hard way how to distinguish the two, icemaiden.
I am full of admiration for the way you have battled onwards, on a really long haul back to fitness and being able to run.
You have done brilliantly. RESPECT.

Yes indeed Jenny, I echo what Sharkie says.
Columba, I get twinges in my feet and knees when I run. My test is to focus on the twinge-y bit and actually will it to relax. Then I distract myself by thinking about something completely different. If I can 'forget' the twinge, it's not serious. If it nags away, I'd be more cautious. Interestingly since I've started, as Sharkie says, really focusing on how my body feels and engaging my brain with the grumbling parts, I've run more niggle-free than before.

I haven't been following this thread from the start, and have missed some of Sharkie's wise words. Rather a lot to read back through...

It was track night again tonight. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as we didn't do any actual 'sprinting' (by which I mean short but as fast as possible intervals). Instead we did 4 sets of 1600m, with the intention of speeding up on each one. My first attempt was 8:53 over 0.98 mile (9:04 min/mile) Second was 8:50 over 0.97 mile (9:05 min/mile) Third was 8:57 over 0.98 mile (9:08 min/mile) Don't know about the fourth as I didn't stop my Garmin properly and it includes a bit of walking about before I realised.
I am at least pretty consistent, even though that wasn't the aim of the evening!

Track for me tonight. Mostly 100/200 m sprints. My fastest was 6.23 pace! (only over a very short distance though). Really enjoyed it
Not sure I'm getting much faster overall but I'll keep working at it. Hope you're all doing OK. We've gone a bit quiet lately...

It's not track night this week, but a speed session along the cycle path. I *could* go, but it's not as congenial as the track. Maybe in a few weeks and we're running in daylight again I'll give it a go.

Actually I've just looked at this week's plan:
Good warm up 6 x 100m 6 x 200m 6 x 300m Cool Down
I could do that as a session during the day, maybe even on the track or at least in the park. Doesn't say anything about recoveries in between - anyone have any suggestions?

I think we generally jog the same distance we've just done as recovery. Sharkie will know though
