Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I had a look through the new way we're going to be operating with our reception/year 1 children when they come back. Aside from any safety issues, as a parent I wouldn't want my children going back to that, it looks as though it will be a horrible experience for them, all the joy sucked out of school. I hope I'm wrong.

I think a lot of people are starting to think that it could be quite traumatic in itself. Seeing your friends, but not being able to touch them might end up worse than a video call.

I had 4 phone calls from the Deputy this morning; 3 were asking what she should put on the DfE attendance debacle of a site since they've changed it so much. It took a bit of thinking between us to decide what we should be reporting as we are still open only to key workers and vulnerable and so didn't think much of it applied very well to our situation.
The 4th call was because a parent phoned to say she is a key worker and her child needs to come to school from Wednesday - trouble is the child isn't registered at our school. Mum had contacted me in February and I said there would be a place when they moved to to the village, but with CV and the lockdown, the child is still registered at her old school and there wasn't anyone answering the phone at Admissions. I'm not sure that it's the best time for a new pupil to start; she'll be in a bubble with children from 3 year groups, she won't know anyone including adults and it won't be like school normally is. I think it will be a bit daunting for her, poor thing.
I hadn't planned for that!

Apart from that, all the planning has paid off and there were no problems :)

I hope everyone else's day has gone to plan.

I'm having a Zoom meeting with some staff at 5pm to discuss wider opening to Reception in another couple of weeks.

Our day went really well. 88 children came in and left again smoothly. I was in my bubble from 8 - 4 but I did see a few other people from a distance!

First day back at school for me today (though have been going in on a rota for KW children) and have to say it was lovely! We had a couple away in our 'pod', so only 10 children (Yrs 5 & 6) but they all seemed very happy and said they were pleased to be back. Obviously it was a very different day to normal, but all our preparations seemed to work well and our parents seemed happy at the end of the day. Hope everyone else has had a good day :-)

Cyclops - our bubbles have turned to pods! Is that because they're less likely to pop ;-)

Hope your staff meeting went well, GM.

Good news that things went well for you too, cyclops.

I’m not due in til next week. I went in today to help get things prepared. Everything seems organised well so hopefully it’ll be fine when I go back.

Yes it did thanks Ness. We had really productive chat about how the classrooms can work for Reception. We are going to be more flexible with social distancing with them than we have been so far and pal for more group activities and play for them but with the teacher staying the 2m distance if they want to. We've chatted about which outdoor and construction kit they could use and have found a way of cleaning then scooters and bikes so they could be used to. One of the teachers is going to trial it this week and see how it works before we offer it wider.

There are enough educators on here that I thought it might be nice to have somewhere supportive to rant and problem solve.
