Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It's on trains that it affects me most. When running I wear a hat to keep the sun out of my eyes.

Oh yes, I know exactly what you mean. In fact, I mentioned it in my blog on Sunday. You describe it much more eloquently than me though.

Strobing sunlight is one of the things that can set off my wife's visual vertigo. Big problem for her driving at this time of year.

I find this problematic too and it can trigger a migraine if I don't duck out of the sun! Glasses or hat needed if the sun is low.
Fences are the worst weather running, walking or on the train

Interestingly, when we changed direction, so that the sun was coming at me from the left, everything improved. I wonder if that's a thing.

Just an idle thought really. My missus, as I said, has visual vertigo. It took a lot of diagnosing but was worth finding out. Visual and auditory conditions can set it off:

- strobing lights
- fireworks (visually)
- fireworks (the sound)
- vibrations (e.g. an amped up acoustic guitar!)

so clearly she has it quite bad. However, they were able to determine that she was worse in one ear than the other. (A lot of it was caused by damage to her middle ear from infections). She got given some exercises to do (Cawson Cooksey). These are worth doing because rather than just lying down and feeling bleargh, it's a condition that needs challenging or else it gets worse and you get no better.

So in short, no you don't need to get tested unless it's affecting your life. But if you've got a Wii, you should do the balance tests to see what it says ;-)

Cycling past a row of trees in sunlight triggered an epileptic attack for one of my dad's friends.

The feeling did seem to be accompanied by a bit of a sugar craving too. Tempting to take some jelly babies with me next time, to see if they make it go away. I might just have been fancying one though :-)

McG - interesting stuff about balance. I've never felt as though mine has been particularly good - on occasion I will find myself taking a steadying step.

If we're out on a wet run again, I might try sunnies too, just to eliminate some potential causes.
