I watched Episode IV. Well, most of Episode IV. And I couldn't see what all the fuss is about. Wooden acting and not much plot. Lord knows why Alec Guinness agreed to appear. I thought the best thing about it was that Princess Leia clearly wasn't wearing a bra.

Sorry guys, but I'll pass. Clearly the force is not with me ...

Lucas told Carrie Fisher that there was no underwear in space. Careful use of electrical tape covered the rest.

Alec Guinness didn't like it but it was work and there was a fair bit of filming at Pinewood. He agreed a deal for a lower basic salary for a very small %age of the merchandising and lived a more comfortable life subsequently as a result, not that he was exactly struggling before.

I can see why it wouldn't hit as an adult, Muttley. I saw it when I was 7. Loved it. I've been a fan for 49 years and counting.

Ep 4 is basically a fairy tale set in space. A orphan farm boy goes on a quest to rescue a princess from an evil monster, with the help of a wizard and a loveable rogue. Action ensues and the good guys win. The hero goes on a journey and is forever changed by it, and a whole new destiny is revealed to him.

It's a story as old as a galaxy far far away, right? How could that not succeed?

And at the time the visual effects were pretty spectacular compared to most kid-friendly scifi.
