When we started we had a similarly 'enthusiastic' ED who was very swiftly replaced by a local ambassador who was just as enthusiastic for parkrun but perhaps in a more 'appropriate' way. Things that the original guy had planned and gone very public with (including a 9.30am start every week as he often worked a late shift on a Friday) did not happen!

Love that. "I think you'll find that 9am starts are more what you'd call guidelines than rules..." |

The inaugural parkrun in question featured on Midlands Today this evening. Apparently it definitely won't be launched on the day that has been publicised.

Nothing wrong with a 9.30 start, all the best parkruns do that😂 (I'm in Ireland)

A three word search found the proposed parkrun in question. Well, at least he shouldn't have any difficulty finding twelve volunteers a week from 1500 runners If the date isn't changed, or even if it is, I suspect that the practical thing to do would be to appeal to local parkruns for any "spare" volunteers for the inaugural in an "all hands to the pump" effort. |

It's fine having extra vols, but it the course big enough to take 1500 and however many vols you have 1500 through the funnel is A LOT!! We have 1500 at Christmas and it's fine but only because we've built up from 200 over the years, have a double funnel, plan it from November, have enough tokens and lots of experienced vols. Going in week 1 with 1500 is scary! He clearly has no idea! |

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.
Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
Please do not talk about specific upcoming inaugural events. Parkrun have asked that they are not publicised, in order to look after the organisers.
