Agree wholeheartedly with Mrs S, the Fling finish is amazing. No matter how bad the race has gone it always feels a great achievement to run along the finishing straight

I am in for my second time, even though I have entered it four times.
Up for a training weekend at end of Feb.

Joops, is that weekend of 21/22 Feb or 28 Feb/1 Mar? I've got XC on Sun 22 Feb unfortunately, but would be up for something longish on WHW on 28 Feb / 1 Mar. I'll go check Fling FB page, see if it's got training weekend dates. G

I think there will be one on Saturday 28th, not seen anything posted but I reckon it normally happens that weekend. I have it in my plan anyway.

Breaking my ultra cherry with this one. I've been trying to get training under way properly since I entered, but only really got going last week. Tried my first double long run with a 33 miler on Saturday on the fife coastal path and over some of the hills, and then a 35 on Sunday. Legs and feet feel a wee bit beat up, but nothing major. That gave me 105 for the week. I'm hoping to do more back to back doubles a few times between now and the race, but this week will be more like a 'normal' marathon training week. I'm aiming to get some time on the way at some point as well.

I'm assuming you're trying to win it then Davie?! 33 + 35? A back to back which is *longer* than the actual race you are doing? Sometimes known as overkill?! Or... bliddy good training, knowing your ability! Good luck. G

Win it?? Lol Nah, I just felt decent each day once I was out HG. My plan was a 20/20, taking it easy both days. But it was such a nice day Saturday I just kept going. I thought it might have ruined Sunday, but my legs felt good when I set off again so I managed another longer one.

Well, I am in for my maiden appearance at the Fling...but given recent injury problems, the target is "finish within the cutoff", and nothing more... think the nerves are kicking in!

I'm another newcomer to this race, and I'm usually in the last 10% at ultras. Not known for my ability to cope with hills....................... yup, I'm worried about this, but training has been going OK, although longest run so far is just 17 miles.

Hello tricialitt, enthusiasm and determination will get you a long way in an ultra. My big tip is that if you have the mental strength to keep going past Rowardennan and don't quit there, then you'll reach the end. Because you can't give up at Inversnaid - it's so remote, and then who would stop at Beinglas Farm having managed 41 miles when you can just walk the last 12 miles in three and half hours? No one, exactly.
And if you reach Tyndrum, frankly it doesn't matter how far up or down the field you finish - you're a winner!
