Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Larkim - I wouldn't have known about the polar if you hadn't mentioned it a few times so thanks. I'll be very happy if it's accurate in races as that's where I never wear a chest strap.

I haven't used the polar app at all. Presumably that only works if you set the polar to record internally? It's odd it doesn't allow RHR recording. Surely a firmware update could fix that (I presume you're on the latest software)?

With charging, I've noticed the red light before a couple of runs. So far, I've been ok doing that run and charging after I'm done. If that continues then I won't have any issue with charging, unless I lose the charger. Should probably buy a spare if they're cheap enough.

It's the app itself - the graphs and data etc only report on HR max and average, and the graphs they report only show time and activity in / around the HR zones, so for me anything under about 70 just disappears off the graph. I've reported it to them and they said they'd take a look - I can't be the only person thinking that using it's offline recording for an evening whilst watching TV might be a good opportunity to get a nice consistent RHR reading recorded.

Is that the beats app or the flow app?

This suggests there is a test that would work but any activity during may skew things: support.polar.com

Good spot, I'll give that a test. I was just expecting that after recording an offline session it would actually make the data available and easy to use! I suppose "min" HR probably would be a worthless piece of data in most cases though.

It's the beat app that I use. Not looked at flow, maybe I should have a look.

I don't know what to do about my 235 and the optical HR. I know they aren't meant to be as accurate as chest worn ones, but mostly mine has been fine for my purposes. Recently though I have had real problems at the start of some runs with it recording a ridiculously high HR - I was in Zone 6 at one point this morning - I didn't think there was a zone 6! It isn't my actual heart rate as I stopped and took a measurement with my phone - which read 65 bpm at a point when the Garmin was saying 139 bpm. I've had the watch 3 years and it definitely seems to be getting worse. Does anyone have any suggestions?

With my 225 the HR would spike at the start.

I used to run or walk for a couple of minutes until it was steady then delete and start again.

AL, the Optical HR on watches gets better with each generation. The FR245 will out-perform the 235 for example. If you are not in the market for a new watch then a HR strap or arm worn HR device can be added as a sensor to the 235 and should cost a lot less than a new watch

@Looby Loo - that I would be ok with - but recently it's taking about 10 minutes to be correct.

@CW - thanks, I might look into that.

I wouldn't buy a new watch in the hope of getting better optical HR, feels like fools gold. Arm ones will generally be more accurate as discussed recently on the last few pages.
