Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I'm slightly puzzled by why it doesn't work upside down, I'd have expected left to be right, but not no recording, but then I don't actually know how it works...

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I have a Fenix5 I use for running and general use. I also have an edge 820 for cycling.

I would like to use the optical HR from the Fenix when recording a cycling activity on the edge820. Broadcasting the HR from the Fenix would work OK if I only could remember to start it on the Fenix......

Anyone know if its possible that by starting an activity on the edge820 it could automatically receive HR data from a paired fenix (without doing anything on the Fenix) in similar fashion to the way it would from a paired HR strap?

Guessing its not possible but.....

yep, it's easy. Pair the Edge to the watch's HR and make sure its enabled. On the Fenix go to Wrist Heart Rate and make sure the option 'Broadcast During Activity' is set to On. When you start your ride record it on both the Fenix and the Edge (so HR is broadcast) but then discard from the F6 at the end of the ride and only save on the Edge.

The other way of doing this would be to only record on the F6 and use the Edge820 in Extended Display Mode to display the data from the F6 on its screen. This is a bit limited in that it limited the amount of fields displayed but it means you only have recording happening on one device.

Hi CW, thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated. What you describe is more or less what I've been doing (occasionally) as a workaround when I remember.

The problem with this method is the interface with the technology (me) rather than the technology itself lol.

I kind of hoped that there was a way of doing it where I didn't need to touch the Fenix other than wearing it as usual and simply start the Edge and wizardry would make the magic happen in the background..

I don't forget to start the Fenix when running or the Edge when cycling. My problem is I can't seem to remember to start both when cycling lol.

I got a new Garmin 735 just before Christmas. I took great interest in the heart rate (watch only, no chest strap) for the first few weeks.

Yesterday I went cycling - and again today - and I thought I'd compare heart rate cycling vs running.
However, I've found that my recent runs are split between 'proper' heart rate tracking, or none, or the whole run more or less at 101.

Yesterday's ride had no HR, today's was at fixed 101, other than a few drops. I am not that good at maintaining steady HR ...

Is it maybe just I had the watch too loose? Or any other possible issues - or a warranty problem?
Seems fine now while I'm typing this.

Sigh
For Optical HR on both my previous 235 and my current 245, I'd tighten the strap when running so that it was difficult to fit my finger under it, and loosen it later when I'd finished.
