My last beer festival, I travelled 12 miles on foot to get to. Unfortunately, I also travelled an unscheduled 9 miles on foot to return. Mainly in the dark, after, as you would expect, quite a few beers. Although it proved quite effective, if unconventional, half marathon training.

In not quite real ale news, I visited Scotland's first pub to serve tankové lager, Innis and Gunn's The Beer Kitchen. The beer was their own lager, unpasteurised - and it was an enormous disappointment.
My pint did not sing from the glass, it more kind of mumbled apologetically. £4.75 a pint and I could have spent £2.75 for it in 'Spoons instead or bought four cans and either would have been a big improvement.

I went to the beer festival in a nearby town, Manningtree, last night. Walking home along the river was a bit scary and it probably would have been useful to take a torch but I'll know for next year. Lovely little festival - on the beach. Only open between 6pm and 9pm on the Friday night (so that they don't take all the trade from the pubs and probably because they don't want people who've had one too many wandering into the river I expect!)
Many local beers - mostly very nice. One called Mayflower from the Harwich Brewery was definitely an acquired taste though - and not one I'm likely to acquire any time soon!!

Back from Southwold this afternoon with an assortment of Adnams ales (Broadside, Explorer, Lighthouse, Gun Hill, Ghost Ship and a Southwold Bitter). Some I'll give to family but I'm just deciding on which ones to keep for myself.

I normally prefer a dark beer but today a pint of Beachcomber (pale golden ale) really hit the spot. Much better than a coffee & cake stop today on a warm cycle ride.
