Belated...great Race to the Stones paul0. I'm up to five milers at last, seven months after hip replacement. Believe it or not I had loads of niggles in other parts of my leg for a long time-knee, shin, IB...but finally went back to a new prescription of orthotics after a couple of years not wearing them and things are looking up! A 10k race to do in September just to get the feel of things....I've run...140 miles this year!! Got my eye on 2,000 again in 2020.

Blimey torey that’s good work. You’ll forgive me if I have my hands over my eyes for your September race and I know that you’ve come so far that you’ll be sensible. Lovely to hear about your progress, I’ll bet you’re relishing every second. Splendid stuff.

!! thanks SailorSteve--I don't think I should call it a "race" really because I won't be running it at tempo pace, it's just to get back into the feel of things-I'll have done a couple of seven milers with my husband before then. I suppose I should call it an "event" rather than a "race". I've got my mind half set on a twenty miler event in October but my husband (a long time runner and on Fetch) thinks I'm being too ambitious...

Well done torey. Sounds like recovery is progressing well.
I'm hanging on by the skin of my teeth to the 2000 target. Have a November marathon which might help.

Hope it goes well for you Torey and your road to recovery continues. I think I know your husband on other threads, always has wise (and cautious) advice.
Think the 2000 is drifting away from me this year with niggles and a lack of motivation and targets taking their toll.

Well done Torey, well back on the road to recovery.
For me, looking at the end of August, I'm on track but I'm sitting here considering do I want to be? I have a November marathon, but unusually for me I have a lot of aches and pains, (knees, hip, calf, hamstrings) and I'm considering should I follow a more Furmanesque program, less running but more focused", ie 3 runs a week. I'm sure I need to recover more, and the advice is for runners over 45 is to run less, but make sure each session is quality, such as one long run, one tempo, one speed kind of thing. I have a 7 mile race tomorrow which will help make my mind up, I suspect the niggles are gonna make it hard and a general tiredness from trying to ramp up the miles. I feel like a I need a change, otherwise I'm just conforming to habit.
