It's back, and it's souped up. Fantasy Fetch is a game for all you armchair managers out there. It's completely free to play, and there are no prizes, other than the prestige of topping the leaderboard! You start with a zero bank balance, but you can spend, spend, spend to build a squad of 5 Fetchies that are destined for big things. Each Fetchie is valued according to their racing performances, and also the amount of training they do. Can you turn in a profit?
So what's changed since last time?
Well, the transfer system has been abandoned, since runners can now be part of any number of squads. Also,
the runner valuing system takes more factors into account, so that you've got much more to think about. And also,
you don't have a starting budget, but instead an unlimited overdraft.
How to get started
First, visit the team list, and click the link to register your team.
Your team will be added to the list, and you can also click the other teams to see who they've bought.
How do I pick my squad?
Visit a members profile, and you'll see a box on the right-hand-side, titled Fantasy Fetch.
This box contains info to let you know the current value of this runner. Click the link to
add the player to your squad. Unlike the previous edition of the game, you can buy runners that are already a member
of another squad.
How do I know if I've been picked?
Unless you've disabled notifications, you'll also get an fmail whenever you're bought or sold. You can also click
the Teams You're In tab to see a full list.
I've been sold! Am I rubbish?
I'm pretty sure you're not rubbish. After all, some people have trouble reaching under their enormous backsides to
find the TV remote - and yet, here you are, running! You go girl / boy / thing. The FantasyFetch manager who sells you
might have seen a bargain runner somewhere else, or might be swapping you for a friend, or might just be an idiot. Who knows?
So what happens after I've picked my squad?
The members of your squad will continue about their business, racing and training, and their value will
go up or down as time goes on. It's a bit like trading on the stock market - you find a runner that's improving,
and add them to your squad when their value is low - and then when you think they've peaked, you sell them!
It sounds cruel, and it probably is, but please remember that it's just a game, and if you're the one who gets
sold, you can bliddy well show that merciless FantasyFetch manager a thing or two about running dagnabbit!
So how are values calculated?
Unlike the previous version of the game, where runners were given a value equal to their Fetch Ranking, the new system
also takes into account the amount of training they do, and also the number of people who have selected the runner for their
squads (you'll notice that your runners will gain 5 points when you add them to your squad).
So is this the real competition now?
Lets see how it goes. We'll run things for another couple of months, and see how the rules are working out. I think
that monthly and annual competitions might be the way to go, to allow new users a chance to shine, so we'll see what
happens for a bit.
It's not working right!
Don't panic! Don't panic! Just send me some feedback giving me as much detail as you
can about the problem. You might not get an immediate response, but I'll do my best to sort out major problems
quickly.
